Hello Maxwell!

Hello! I am Amelia Gannon and I am a new student blogger for the Public Administration and International Affairs program at Maxwell. I am a MPA student with a focus in education policy.

Syracuse is a second home to me. I was born and raised in Alexandria, VA right outside of the District of Columbia, but my parents were born and raised in Syracuse. I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember and I am a proud alumna of Syracuse University. I graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and political science. Before coming back to Syracuse last summer I worked in the education field. For two years I was a Teach for America corps member where I taught pre-kindergarten and Head Start in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In 2011 I worked for Westat, a research and analysis corporation, on the National Assessment of Educational Progress.  My teaching experience is what brought me back to Maxwell. I hope to continue to play a role in helping to insure that all children are guaranteed a quality education after I graduate in June.

I am so excited to write about all the places and events that I love about Syracuse and all the things that make it bleed ORANGE. If you have any questions about my posts or if have anything you want me to write about, write a comment or send me an email at algannon@syr.edu. I’d love to hear from you!
